Hello all my name is Laura and I am a knitter and sewer based in South Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom with my husband and son. I am using this space to document my journey into making my own wardrobe.
I started knitting 10 years ago where I learnt through YouTube tutorials. I was first directed to knitting by my mental health team at the time. To start with I only dabbled in it but about 5 years ago I feel very sick again and that’s when I used knitting as a healing tool. It helped ground me and keep me present. Now I have made a few garments which have been a varying degrees of successful.
Sewing is something I have always done on and off since my GCSE textiles back in 2003. Bing dyslexic I find reading some sewing patterns challenging and need some support when I comes to understanding them. During the lockdown a few years ago I picked up my sewing machine again since then I have chosen more challenging items with a few new skills. (with a lot of help from my mum who is my guide through my sewing).
My garment making is a physical representation of how I am doing mentally and at the moment I am doing really well. Follow me on my journey and hopefully we can learn together.
